Starting in the 1960s, Renault embarked upon a number of pioneering collaborations with artists, giving rise to a remarkable collection of works inspired by the worlds of manufacturing and the automobile. More than half a century later, the car remains at the heart of societal debates, and stands as an icon of industrial society.

Madeline Hollander salvages car headlights and assembles them according to the position of the sun at different points around the globe, creating a dialogue between natural cycles and programming.

Several artists overturn the traditionally masculine imaginaries associated with the car. In Frieda Toranzo Jaeger’s work, the car’s interior is transfigured into an erotic sanctuary.
